Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Directional Drill Operator to join our team. This role is responsible for operating horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment to install underground utilities such as fiber optic, telecommunications, gas, water, and sewer lines.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to job site safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment to install underground utilities
• Read and interpret project plans, utility locates, and bore profiles
• Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections on drilling equipment
• Set up and tear down drilling equipment and job sites
• Monitor drilling operations to ensure accuracy and efficiency
• Maintain proper drilling fluid circulation and consistency
• Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and project manager

Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience operating directional drilling equipment (preferred)
• Ability to read blueprints and utility maps
• Strong knowledge of HDD procedures and equipment

Preferred Skills

• Experience in fiber optic or telecom installation
• Vacuum excavation or locating experience
• Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills

Work Environment
This position requires outdoor work in a construction environment. Candidates should be comfortable working in varying weather conditions and traveling to different job sites as needed.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Des Moines, IA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
