COBOL Developer

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in San Antonio, TX looking for a COBOL Developer.

Summary:
The ideal candidate brings hands-on COBOL experience within a banking or financial institution, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to clearly communicate technical issues and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Key Responsibilities:
* Support and maintain core banking applications written in COBOL within a mainframe environment
* Perform break/fix analysis, root-cause investigation, and production issue resolution
* Analyze existing COBOL programs to understand business logic, data flows, and dependencies
* Collaborate with business analysts, QA, and operations teams to clarify requirements and troubleshoot defects
* Participate in incident management, including on-call or escalation support as needed
* Document fixes, system behavior, and technical findings to support knowledge transfer and audit readiness
* Assist with minor enhancements, maintenance releases, and regulatory-driven updates
* Communicate effectively with stakeholders to explain issues, impacts, and recommended solutions

REQUIREMENTS:
* 5+ years of COBOL development experience in a production environment
* Banking or financial services experience required (e.g., deposits, loans, payments, ACH, teller, or core systems)
* Strong experience with break/fix support, debugging, and production troubleshooting
* Solid understanding of mainframe environments (e.g., batch processing, online transactions)
* Experience working with business analysts and non-technical partners
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-availability environment

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
