Position: Principal Test Equipment Design Engineer

Location: Tewksbury, MA (on-site 5 days)

Project Duration: 12 months w/ possibility of extension or conversion

Rate: Negotiable Based on Experience

Role Overview

We're seeking a Principal Test Equipment Design Engineer with expertise in electrical design and software automation to develop advanced test platforms and architectures. You'll work on a variety of programs, designing test solutions for analog/digital, RF, high-power, and embedded systems using both custom and COTS equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deploy complex factory test systems in collaboration with internal and external teams
  • Lead development of test hardware, software, and firmware from requirements through deployment
  • Coordinate with engineering and operations teams to ensure smooth manufacturing integration
  • Identify and resolve test readiness issues throughout the development lifecycle
  • Lead medium-to-large teams, managing budget, schedule, and performance
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to peers and junior engineers
  • Present project status to leadership and report financial metrics (EVMS)
  • Manage risks and opportunities proactively
  • Support manufacturing operations with on-site troubleshooting and debugging
  • Contribute to bids and proposals with cost, schedule, and technical input


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM
  • 8+ years of engineering experience, including 4+ years in test equipment design
  • Experience leading technical teams and projects
  • Familiarity with MS Project, Jira/Confluence, and EVMS tools
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with National Instruments tools (TestStand, LabWindows/CVI, LabVIEW)
  • Background in digital, analog, RF, or power supply test hardware design
  • Experience automating commercial test equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, analyzers, etc.)
