Full Stack Web Developer (Backend-Focused)

Location: San Diego, CA

Overview

We are seeking a highly capable Full Stack Web Developer with a strong backend focus to build and launch an internet-facing data capture application. This role is centered on functionality, systems architecture, and deployment, not front-end design polish.
You will be responsible for standing up a scalable, backend-driven web application, deploying it in AWS, and integrating data services through APIs. The ideal candidate thrives in building production-ready systems and can operate independently while collaborating with a small, focused team.

Key Responsibilities

Foundation (Early Stage)

• Design and build a backend-driven web application from the ground up
• Deploy, host, and manage the application within AWS
• Integrate and connect data services using REST APIs

Integration & Scale (Mid Stage)

• Support and maintain a production-ready web application
• Ensure reliability and performance of backend systems and services
• Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders (including technical leads) with minimal oversight

Ownership & Evolution (Ongoing)

• Continuously iterate and improve the application as requirements evolve
• Make architectural decisions to support scalability, resilience, and long-term maintainability
• Own backend logic, data flow, and system integrations

Required Qualifications

• Strong experience building and deploying web applications on AWS (Amazon Web Services)
• Proven backend development expertise, particularly with Python
• Hands-on experience with Django, including building and deploying full web applications
• Solid understanding of backend architecture, APIs, and data services
• Experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs
• Ability to build functional, production-ready systems (vs. design-focused front-end work)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Kubernetes or containerized deployment environments
• Familiarity with prompt engineering or working with AI-driven integrations
• Background working with Python-based web ecosystems beyond basic front-end frameworks

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $65.00/hr.
