Role Summary

The Senior Camunda Administrator will be responsible for the end-to-end setup, configuration, and maintenance of Camunda BPM environments across a distributed server landscape. The primary focus of this role is to lead environment replication efforts—ensuring that production-grade setups can be mirrored or moved to new on-premise or cloud servers with high reliability, security, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Environment Replication & Provisioning: Lead the installation and configuration of new Camunda environments (v7.x or v8/Zeebe) across different server environments (Dev, QA, UAT, Prod).

  • Platform Orchestration: Manage Camunda deployments using containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift to ensure environment consistency.

  • Performance Tuning: Optimize Camunda engine configurations, including Job Executor tuning, thread pool management, and database connection pooling to handle high-volume process execution.

  • Database Administration: Collaborate with DBAs to manage the Camunda database schema (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle), including history cleanup strategies and index optimization.

  • Security & Identity: Configure identity management (LDAP/Active Directory) and implement fine-grained Authorization (ACLs) within the Camunda Web Apps (Cockpit, Tasklist, Admin).

  • Monitoring & Observability: Set up and maintain monitoring dashboards using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK Stack to track engine health and process bottlenecks.

  • Migration & Upgrades: Plan and execute version upgrades and patches for the Camunda platform and underlying Java runtime environments.

  • Automation: Develop scripts (Ansible, Terraform, or Shell) to automate the "spin-up" of new Camunda instances to reduce manual setup time.

Technical Qualifications

  • Camunda Expertise: 5+ years of experience specifically in Camunda BPM administration and infrastructure management.

  • Infrastructure Skills: Deep knowledge of Web Servers/Application Servers (Tomcat, WildFly, or Spring Boot embedded).

  • DevOps Mastery: Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI) and Infrastructure as Code for environment replication.

  • Java Environment: Strong understanding of JVM internals, memory management, and troubleshooting heap dumps/thread dumps.

  • Networking: Understanding of load balancing, SSL/TLS certificate management, and firewall configurations for distributed Camunda clusters.

  • Database: Proficiency in managing relational databases and understanding Camunda’s persistence layer.

Desired Soft Skills

  • Architectural Thinking: Ability to visualize how environment replication impacts the broader enterprise ecosystem.

  • Documentation: Commitment to maintaining detailed "Runbooks" for environment setup and disaster recovery.

  • Strategic Planning: Experience in long-term capacity planning for growing BPM workloads.
