Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Manufacturing Engineer for a role focused on designing, building, and testing prototype systems for future consumer VR and AR experiences. This position requires a candidate with experience in driving the development of novel manufacturing processes from concept to pilot-production. The role involves working at the intersection of materials, mechanical, electrical, and software fields to deliver reliable, high-performance hardware prototypes.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the Manufacturing Engineering team, system integration activities, and DFx in a cross-functional work environment to deliver reliable hardware prototypes.
- Scale state-of-the-art hardware prototypes from concept to pilot-production volumes.
- Grow in-house manufacturing capabilities and manage external manufacturing partnerships.
- Develop and continuously improve processes and relationships to empower researchers and design engineers.
- Implement quality control procedures to resolve processing problems.
- Design and implement process development plans and design of experiments (DOE).
- Direct priorities for a cross-functional team to meet schedule milestones and stakeholder requirements.
Required Qualifications
Education: A BS/MS degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience is required.
Experience: 8+ years of experience is required in scaling processes to pilot-production or mass manufacture.
Technical Skills: Experience with manufacturing techniques for robotics and soft wearable devices, including textiles, polymer processing, electromechanical integration, lamination, and adhesive bonding is necessary. Project management skills are also required.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience working on early product manufacturing development.
- Experience with the design and/or production of robotic systems.
- Experience with mass production of systems requiring multiple manufacturing processes such as miniature motorized mechanisms, soft goods processing, active optical alignment, casting, molding, machining, electronics packaging, coatings, and additive manufacturing.
- Experience in design for manufacturing, assembly, or reliability.
- Experience with industry CAD software, such as NX or related programs.
Compensation & Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80.00 to $90.00 per hour. Please note that the availability of benefits may vary depending on the length of the assignment and your employment status.
