Summary

Overview

Our client is seeking a Systems Administrator to support core infrastructure operations during a large-scale enterprise platform initiative. This role is focused on maintaining day-to-day system performance, resolving incidents, and supporting smaller initiatives while senior engineers concentrate on strategic transformation work.
This is a contract role through the end of the calendar year, with the potential for extension based on project needs and performance.
Target Level:
  • L2 Systems Administrator (3+ years experience) - preferred
  • Strong L1 candidates may be considered for future openings

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily systems administration across infrastructure environments
  • Respond to and resolve service requests, incidents, and operational issues
  • Support minor infrastructure projects and system enhancements
  • Manage virtual machines (provisioning, resizing, templates)
  • Execute backup and restore activities
  • Administer and maintain Windows Server environments
  • Support Active Directory and Group Policy management
  • Remediate vulnerabilities and audit findings
  • Assist with scripting and automation using PowerShell
  • Partner with engineers, project teams, and business stakeholders
  • Ensure operational stability during large-scale infrastructure initiatives

Required Qualifications

Core Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including documentation
  • Effective time management with the ability to prioritize competing tasks
  • Proven ability to collaborate across technical and business teams

Technical Skills

Hands-on experience with several of the following:
  • Virtualization platforms (VMware and/or Nutanix AHV)
  • Backup and recovery solutions
  • Windows Server (Linux exposure is a plus)
  • Active Directory & Group Policy
  • PowerShell scripting (basic to intermediate)
  • Microsoft 365 (nice to have)

Infrastructure & Networking Knowledge

Working knowledge of:
  • VPNs, VLANs
  • TCP/IP, IPsec
  • HTTPS, SSL/TLS
  • Routing, switching, and firewalls

Process & Best Practices

  • Familiarity with IT best practices and standard methodologies
  • Exposure to policy and procedure development

Technology Environment

  • VMware ESXi
  • Nutanix AHV
  • Windows Server
  • Active Directory / Group Policy
  • PowerShell
  • Backup and vulnerability management tools

Note: Nutanix experience is a plus, but not required. Strong virtualization fundamentals (VMware or equivalent) are highly transferable, and training will be provided.

Key Initiatives

VMware to Nutanix Migration

  • Support virtualization platform migration efforts
  • Assist with VM builds, testing, validation, and documentation
  • Gain hands-on experience with Nutanix AHV in an enterprise environment

Windows Server Modernization

  • Assist with upgrades from Windows Server 2016
  • Support server builds, patching, and validation
  • Coordinate with infrastructure and business teams during upgrade cycles

Additional Focus Areas

  • Vulnerability remediation and security initiatives
  • Infrastructure lifecycle management and standardization
  • Automation and optimization using PowerShell

This role will support (not lead) major initiatives, ensuring continuity and execution at the operational level.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Experience

  • Exposure to Nutanix AHV
  • Linux experience
  • Microsoft 365 familiarity
  • Scripting/automation experience (PowerShell)
  • Infrastructure/networking breadth
  • Experience supporting migrations or security programs

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
