Data Engineer II

RESPONSIBILITIES:
A client with Kforce is seeking a Data Engineer II to join their team in Mountain View, CA.

Summary:
We are looking for creative problem solvers with a passion for tackling tough customer problems involving data to serve as a Data Enablement Engineer, taking data initiatives from the question behind them through to a designed, proven solution other teams can build on. Responsibilities:
* Partner with data science stakeholders to understand the business problem behind a key result, and determine the data needed to answer it
* Translate that into clear requirements and specifications data engineering can build from, and maintain a well-specified backlog
* Design schemas, tables, and data solutions that meet our standards for trusted, well-documented data
* Build proofs of concept, from design documents through to notebooks validated against real data, judging how much prototyping each decision warrants
* Partner with source data owners, and with data engineering through build and UAT
* Advance trusted data foundations - observability, schema monitoring, quality rules, data contracts - and build AI skills and agents that accelerate the team

REQUIREMENTS:
* 4-8 years in analytics engineering, data engineering, or an adjacent data role
* Experience designing data models and schemas for analytical use
* Hands-on Databricks and advanced SQL, able to profile unfamiliar tables and validate grain and joins independently; Git and Python a plus
* Fluency using AI tools for research and building, and strong cross-team partnerships
* Demonstrated ability to turn an under-specified request into a clear, buildable requirement

Preferred:
* Experience establishing data quality, observability, or data contract practices
* Experience building AI skills, agents, or workflow automation
* Python proficiency

How you will contribute:
* Has autonomy to work collaboratively with the leaders in your space to drive initiatives and the overall data strategy
* Develops a plan organized into pieces that can be individually owned, uses independent judgment, and communicates progress and trade-offs
* Carries cross-team conversations independently, collaborating closely with the hiring manager on requirements and design

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
