Summary

Linux Administrator SME - HPC Operations

Location: Springfield, VA - Onsite
Duration: Longterm

Role Summary: Provide expert-level Linux administration for our Centralized SuperComputing Facility (CSCF) and associated HPC contracts. You'll handle day-to-day operations, automation, and user support to ensure optimal system performance and availability.

This role requires an active TS/SCI clearance with CI Polygraph at the time of onboarding.
Full-time onsite presence at designated federal facility required

Key Responsibilities

Automate all tasking, debugging, and day-to-day operational functions
Create comprehensive backups and migrate to tape for long-term storage
Work directly with users one-on-one to resolve access and computer system problems
Install software libraries in RHEL/SE Linux environments using Bash and Expect scripting
Apply software engineering best practices to deliver projects on time with excellent quality
Provide SME-level Linux support to Operations & Maintenance staff
Support security and administration staff as well as end users with issue resolution
Modify existing scripts to correct errors and improve performance
Create and update comprehensive documentation for all computer support aspects
Follow established program procedures and templated approaches

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or AIS plus 10 years experience
Minimum 5 years developing system software in heterogeneous, multi-platform environments
Expert proficiency in Bourne/Bash and Expect scripting
Advanced Linux kernel debugging skills (source code examination, system logs, crash/systemtap tools)
Experience managing Satellite repositories for patching and custom kernel builds
Automation experience with Ansible and Satellite Server for system configuration and maintenance
Identity management systems experience including LDAP and token-based authentication

Preferred Qualifications

High Performance Computing (HPC) environment knowledge and experience
InfiniBand or Omni-Path high-speed fabric experience (subnet management, IPoIB/IPoOPA, topology monitoring, MPI integration)
Lustre, NFS, and direct-attach filesystem experience
Ethernet networking and RDMA communications (InfiniBand/OmniPath)
Python, Perl, Korn, and shell scripting knowledge
Revision control software experience (CVS, SVN, Git)
Strong organizational skills for work prioritization and multitasking
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to analyze, debug, and maintain existing scripting infrastructure
