Data Quality/Data Governance Consultant || 100% Remote (W2 Role)

For the DQ/DG person its more data quality focused but some DG work.. the roles will now be blended not just DQ or DG...... and if we could find someone who has worked with mortgage it would be really helpful bc thats been a skill gap to ramp up on all the mortgage terms.  They need someone super strong/ senior

Data Governance Skills/Experience:

• Data Catalog - Understanding of the different capabilities within a catalog and how assets can be related
• Business Glossary - Experience building/populating a business glossary (preferably experience in a data catalog tool)
• Familiar with the concept of Critical Data Elements and experienced in working with business/project resources to identify and document them (incorporating this concept into a data catalog a plus)
• Experience gathering and documenting business rules. Experience converting business rules to data quality rules and implementing a plus.
• A strong understanding of source to target mappings and an ability to utilize them to build/understand data lineage
• Experience identifying and working with key Data Governance roles (Business Data Owner, Business Data Steward). Understanding of their roles/responsibilities

Data Quality Analyst

• Focus on data movement, validation, profiling, cleansing.
• Hands-on with Snowflake, Databricks, Azure, SQL.
• Experience with data quality tools (Alteryx, Informatica, Purview legacy).
• Can translate business requirements into testable DQ rules.

Data Governance Analyst – Recap & Key Skills

Core Responsibilities

• Define and manage critical data elements, metadata, classifications, and standards.
• Apply data privacy and regulatory tags (PII, compliance labels, etc.).
• Focus on data classification, validation, and cataloging in data catalogs.
• Develop and validate classification rules to ensure alignment with data protection requirements.
• Work with modern data catalogs such as Collibra, Alation, Informatica (IDMC).
• Ensure proper definitions and clarity around data usage and ownership.

Governance Role Expectations

• Strong alignment with data protection and privacy requirements.
• Hands-on with Informatica IDMC (preferred, not required).
• No responsibility for access management, but must handle data classification and cataloging.

Candidate Profile

• Hybrid skillset: technical + business acumen.
• Technical skills:
• SQL, ETL understanding, data profiling, data warehouse knowledge.
• Ability to read, query, and analyze data.
• Business skills:
• Work directly with the business, understand data purpose, interpret rules.
• Recognize and define PII and sensitive data elements.
• Backgrounds that can be helpful: data modelers or data architects (already familiar with purpose, structure, and proper definitions of data) but w/ strong data governance skills

Most Important Qualities

• Ability to work with the business is the #1 requirement.
• Direct experience in data governance (rare but highly valued).
• If not experienced, candidates must have the right foundation (data modeling/architecture) so they can be trained.
• Knowledge of compliance is less critical for contractors (often reserved for FTEs).
