Location: Charlotte, NC or Denver, CO (onsite 5x per week)

Role Overview

We are hiring a Vulnerability Management Engineer handson with deep experience supporting and operating Qualys in an enterprise environment. This role is focused on vulnerability detection, assessment, scan strategy, and platform optimization. The ideal candidate has strong experience configuring and customizing Qualys scans, tuning detection coverage, supporting IT and security operations, and driving platform and process improvements across vulnerability management workflows.

Core Responsibilities

  • Configure, customize, and manage Qualys scans, policies, asset groups, and detection strategies
  • Support daytoday operations of enterprise vulnerability management platforms
  • Troubleshoot scan failures, coverage gaps, performance issues, and platform defects
  • Partner with infrastructure, application, and security teams to support vulnerability assessment and reporting needs
  • Implement platform enhancements, upgrades, and breakfix solutions
  • Perform root cause analysis related to tool issues, scan accuracy, and operational gaps
  • Manage production changes and releases in alignment with lifecycle, risk, and governance standards
  • Conduct testing during deployments, upgrades, and incident scenarios
  • Develop and maintain technical and operational documentation

Required Skills & Experience

  • Handson experience configuring and customizing Qualys scans (scan types, profiles, schedules, authentication, asset tagging, and policies)
  • Strong experience in vulnerability management and detection, including scan strategy, coverage optimization, and results analysis
  • Solid understanding of information security principles and vulnerability assessment methodologies
  • Proficiency in system, network, and security operations as they relate to vulnerability detection
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and root cause analysis skills
  • Experience using CLI tools, APIs, and integrations to support or enhance vulnerability management workflows
  • Ability to drive operational improvements, automation, and elimination of process bottlenecks
  • Proven ability to collaborate across engineering, security, operations, and vendor teams

Preferred / Additional Skills

  • Experience with NetBrain, ServiceNow, Aqua, or similar security and operations platforms
  • Working knowledge of Windows, UNIX, and Linux environments
  • Server administration experience (RHEL and/or Windows Server)
  • Familiarity with faulttolerant architectures, scalability, and resiliency concepts
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing scope
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
