Software Engineering Lead
Location: Hybrid, Portland, OR
Job Type: Direct Hire | Full-Time | Exempt
Compensation: $150,000 - $180,000 Base Salary
About the Opportunity
Our client is a growing SaaS organization seeking a Software Engineering Lead to help scale its cloud-native platform and drive technical excellence across the engineering organization.
This is a hands-on leadership role that combines software engineering, cloud architecture, mentorship, and team leadership. The ideal candidate is an experienced full-stack engineer with strong AWS expertise who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, guiding architectural decisions, and delivering scalable, high-quality software solutions.
This is a newly created position driven by continued growth and offers the opportunity to have a meaningful impact on product development, engineering practices, and technology strategy.
Responsibilities
Software Development & Cloud Engineering
- Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain scalable cloud-native applications, APIs, and integrations.
- Architect and implement solutions using AWS services and modern distributed systems patterns.
- Develop reusable frameworks, shared services, and platform capabilities.
- Lead implementation of complex technical initiatives across multiple systems and applications.
- Troubleshoot issues spanning application, infrastructure, and cloud environments.
- Ensure software quality, security, performance, and maintainability standards are met.
Technical Leadership
- Serve as the technical lead for strategic engineering initiatives and cross-functional projects.
- Drive architecture discussions and technical decision-making.
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data, QA, and Operations teams to deliver business outcomes.
- Identify technical risks and provide proactive solutions.
- Help establish and promote engineering standards, best practices, and technical roadmaps.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor and coach engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance.
- Lead and support a small team of engineers.
- Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and development of engineering talent.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performing engineering culture.
Engineering Excellence
- Champion CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, automation, observability, and cloud best practices.
- Drive improvements in scalability, reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
- Promote secure software development practices and compliance-focused engineering.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong full-stack development experience using modern front-end and back-end technologies.
- Hands-on experience building and supporting applications in AWS.
- Experience designing APIs, integrations, cloud-native applications, and distributed systems.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and scalable application development.
- Experience leading technical projects and influencing engineering decisions.
- Proven ability to mentor and guide software engineers.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with C#, .NET, TypeScript, React, and/or Angular.
- Experience with AWS services including Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, Step Functions, CloudWatch, and IAM.
- Experience with Docker, ECS/Fargate, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience building and scaling SaaS platforms.
- Exposure to AI-enabled applications, workflow automation, or intelligent process solutions.
- Healthcare, insurance, fintech, or other regulated-industry experience.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST, and cloud security best practices.
- AWS certifications are a plus.
