Role: Health Services Information Technology Supervisor
Location: Martinez, CA
Duration: 6 months Contract-to-Hire
Role Overview: Under general direction, the Health Services IT Supervisor manages a small-to-midsize IT workgroup or serves as a project lead within the Health Services IT unit. This role blends people management, healthcare IT domain knowledge, and hands-on technical oversight, particularly in regulated healthcare environments. The position is less about deep individual coding and more about leading teams, overseeing healthcare applications/systems, managing vendors/projects, and ensuring operational excellence.
Core Responsibilities: Leadership & Supervision (Primary)
- Supervise and lead professional and technical IT staff
- Assign, prioritize, and review work across application support, development, data/reporting, infrastructure, or security
- Conduct hiring, training, performance evaluations, and staff development
- Act as escalation point for system issues and user concerns
Healthcare IT Systems & Domain Expertise
- Support and manage healthcare information systems (clinical, financial, health plan, or public health systems)
- Deep understanding of healthcare workflows, compliance, and health plan operations
- Experience supporting or managing systems such as Epic (especially Tapestry if CCHP), claims, billing, eligibility, or reporting systems
Project, Budget & Vendor Management
- Lead IT projects or serve as project lead for system implementations or enhancements
- Manage budgets, timelines, and resource allocation
- Ensure compliance with County, State, and healthcare regulations
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies and system improvements
Technical Oversight (Hands-on not required, but must understand)
- Application support & SDLC (requirements, testing, deployment, support)
- Systems analysis and integration
- Reporting and data analysis
- Infrastructure concepts (servers, networks, security)
- Change management and documentation
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
- Interface with executives, department leadership, clinicians, business users, and vendors
- Translate business needs into technical solutions
- Promote customer service, collaboration, and cultural competency
Required Background (What Matters Most):
- 3+ years as an IT Supervisor, Manager, or Project Lead
- At least 2 years in healthcare IT environments
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience/certifications)
- Strong leadership + healthcare systems experience is more critical than deep hands-on coding
