About the Role

AMD is looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Center Technician to join our engineering and validation team. In this role, you will be on the front lines of innovation, working directly with cutting-edge, pre-production AMD silicon (CPUs, GPUs, and accelerators) before it hits the market.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day deployment, configuration, and maintenance of server platforms in a high-density data center lab environment. This role requires a hands-on approach to hardware, a strong understanding of server components, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly technical environment where accuracy and careful handling of confidential, high-value prototypes are paramount.

Key Responsibilities
  • Hardware Deployment & Maintenance: Rack, stack, and cable pre-production servers and test systems in a data center environment.
  • Component Level Work: Perform complex hardware reconfigurations, including safely swapping fragile pre-production CPUs, GPUs, memory (DIMMs), PCIe cards, and storage devices.
  • System Configuration: Flash and update system firmware, BIOS, and BMC/IPMI configurations.
  • OS & Software Installation: Install, configure, and image operating systems (primarily enterprise Linux distributions and Windows Server) and required test environments.
  • First-Line Triage: Perform initial troubleshooting of hardware and network connectivity issues. Isolate failing components and assist engineering teams with root-cause analysis on early-stage silicon.
  • Lab Operations: Maintain accurate inventory tracking of pre-production assets. Ensure lab spaces are organized, secure, and adhere to ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) and thermal safety standards.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with hardware engineering, software validation, and lab management teams through ticketing systems (e.g., Jira) to fulfill hardware requests and report anomalies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Hardware Expertise: Deep understanding of server architecture, PC components, and enterprise IT hardware.
  • Operating Systems: Proficiency with Linux operating systems (specifically command-line navigation and basic administration) and Windows Server environments.
  • Attention to Detail: Proven ability to meticulously handle delicate, highly sensitive, and expensive pre-production hardware.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to safely lift and install server equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively report issues to engineering teams.

Preferred Skills
  • Prior experience working with pre-production silicon or hardware validation.
  • Familiarity with network topologies, optical transceivers, and switch configurations.
  • Basic scripting skills (Python, Bash, or PowerShell) for automating routine lab tasks.
  • Experience with Out-of-Band management tools (e.g., IPMI, iLO, iDRAC).
  • CompTIA A+, Server+, or similar industry certifications.
