SAP S/4HANA Upgrade Lead
Houston, TX (Remote option available)
6+ Months
TOP MUST HAVE: Someone who has lead an upgrade project recently, preferably SAP S/4HANA
The Opportunity:
We are upgrading our SAP S/4HANA environment from the 2022 release to the 2024 release ahead of end-of-maintenance. We are looking for a senior SAP functional consultant to own the readiness and impact-analysis phase of that upgrade from day one, and to carry it through to a successful production cutover.
This is not a coding role. This is the person who figures out what changes, who it affects, and what we do about it — and then makes sure it happens.
SAP has already produced our Readiness Check output covering both functional and technical scope. It exists, and it has not yet been analyzed. That is where you start.
What You'll Do
Own the analysis of the SAP Readiness Check output (functional and technical), Simplification Item Check results, and related SAP documentation.
Work through each identified item to determine business impact: which transactions, apps, and reports are deprecated, replaced, or materially changed in the target release.
Use system usage data (transaction logs, UPL/SCMON, ST03N) to identify which users and business processes are genuinely affected — not a theoretical impact list.
Engage directly with business process owners and end users across functional areas to validate findings and agree the path forward for each change.
Produce a clear current-state / future-state / gap-closure plan for every impacted area.
Define training needs and coordinate delivery so that users are not surprised at cutover.
Partner with internal technical teams and our AMS support partner on custom code remediation, authorizations, interfaces, and Fiori content.
Coordinate the overall workstream: timeline, dependencies, status reporting, and risk escalation to IT leadership.
Support test planning, cutover readiness, and hypercare through go-live.
What You Need
Hands-on experience taking an SAP S/4HANA system through a release upgrade. This is the non-negotiable requirement. ECC-to-S/4HANA conversion experience alone is not a substitute, though it is a plus alongside genuine upgrade work.
Direct working experience with SAP Readiness Check and simplification item analysis.
Strong cross-functional SAP knowledge (Finance, Logistics/Supply Chain, or both) — enough to hold a credible conversation with a process owner about how a change affects their day.
Familiarity with the Fiori app landscape and the SAP GUI-to-Fiori transition path.
Working understanding of the upgrade toolchain and what it demands of the functional team: SUM, Maintenance Planner, ATC custom code checks, SU25 authorization delta.
Exceptional written and verbal communication. This role is internally client-facing. You will be calling business owners across the organization, explaining technical change to non-technical people, and driving decisions out of those conversations.
Ability to work autonomously through dense SAP documentation without hand-holding.
Comfortable carrying light project-management responsibility alongside the analysis work.
Nice to Have
Prior upgrade experience in a comparable landscape (sandbox / development / QA / production).
Change management or end-user training design background.
Experience coordinating with an AMS or managed services provider.
Test automation exposure (Tricentis, Worksoft, eCATT).
