Data Architect

Location: Arlington, Virginia (Remote)

Role Overview

Our organization is seeking a Data Architect to support the Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) program. This position will serve as the primary subject matter expert in managing logical data modeling, design, architecture, and data quality. The role involves supporting the development of dashboard solutions to visualize cybersecurity data for a federal program, acting as a liaison for data quality efforts, and providing architectural guidance to stakeholders across Agile teams, program leadership, and customer representatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for data modeling efforts, performing analysis and managing the change process for data models.
  • Own the creation and maintenance of data dictionaries and data catalogs to help users understand and utilize data.
  • Document data models, adhere to data modeling standards, and communicate the model's intent to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Manage the complete data model lifecycle, including governance processes for changes.
  • Oversee and manage data quality, ensuring completeness, consistency, accuracy, and usability.
  • Act as the primary technical advisor to customers, providing expert feedback and architectural recommendations.
  • Evaluate programming logic (Python, Java) to understand data model references during analysis.
  • Proactively analyze customer data requirements to deliver tailored solutions that ensure technical feasibility and data governance compliance.
Required Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required; a master's degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with data modeling, including developing and documenting data models, interpreting intent, and managing the change process.
  • Strong knowledge of logical data architecture, including ERDs, UML, and data normalization processes.
  • Experience managing data quality to ensure completeness, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Experience designing and implementing data schemas that comply with cyber-relevant data standards (e.g., SCAP, STIX, Elastic Common Schema).
  • In-depth understanding of both relational and non-relational database management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to function as a client-facing subject matter expert and explain complex data concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with the Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket).
  • Ability to operate with minimal supervision in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with cybersecurity tools and technologies.
  • Familiarity with Elasticsearch and its components.
  • Aptitude for developing software solutions to find process efficiencies and automation.
  • Ability to provide statistical analysis of quantitative data.
