Java Software Engineer (Only local to GA)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Java Software Engineer to join a modern engineering organization focused on building new capabilities while modernizing an existing enterprise platform from Java 8 to Java 21.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, distributed cloud-native applications, and enterprise platform modernization. This role also requires an AI-first engineering mindset, with hands-on experience using tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar enterprise-approved AI technologies to improve software development productivity.

The engineer will be responsible for delivering high-quality software while reducing technical debt, modernizing frameworks and dependencies, and maintaining strong standards for architecture, security, scalability, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and implement new features and enhancements using Java and Spring Boot.
• Lead and contribute to Java 8-to-Java 21 modernization initiatives.
• Modernize Spring Boot frameworks, libraries, dependencies, infrastructure, and application components.
• Develop and maintain highly scalable distributed, cloud-native SaaS applications.
• Leverage AI-powered development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, and enterprise-approved LLM platforms for coding, debugging, testing, documentation, and design.
• Review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, security, maintainability, performance, and architectural alignment.
• Identify, prioritize, and remediate technical debt affecting reliability, scalability, developer productivity, and operational efficiency.
• Develop automated unit, integration, and functional tests.
• Troubleshoot complex production and application issues and implement sustainable solutions.
• Collaborate with Product, Architecture, Security, Data, DevOps, and Engineering teams.
• Contribute to architecture and design discussions for modernization and new application capabilities.
• Apply prompt engineering and AI-assisted development techniques to improve engineering productivity.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies and identify opportunities for responsible enterprise adoption.
• Follow secure software development practices and enterprise coding standards.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Proven experience modernizing enterprise applications and leading framework/platform upgrades.
• Experience working with Java 8 through Java 21+.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and cloud-native SaaS application development.
• Experience with AWS and containerized/cloud environments.
• Hands-on experience with GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar AI development tools.
• Understanding of prompt engineering and techniques for validating AI-generated code.
• Experience using AI/LLMs for software development, testing, documentation, code reviews, and modernization.
• Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, design patterns, clean code, and application architecture.
• Ability to balance new feature delivery with technical debt reduction.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

AI & Modern Engineering Skills

• Experience working with LLMs, AI agents, and AI-assisted development tools.
• Practical knowledge of prompt engineering for software development use cases.
• Experience using AI for:
