Mongodb Specialist

Overview

We are seeking an experienced MongoDB Subject Matter Expert (SME) to design, optimize, and govern enterprise-scale MongoDB data platforms that support high-volume, mission-critical workloads. This role requires deep technical expertise in MongoDB architecture, distributed database design, performance optimization, security controls, and operational resiliency.
The ideal candidate is a senior individual contributor who combines strong hands-on database skills with architectural judgment, operational discipline, and the ability to guide solutions from initial design through long-term production operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and govern scalable, highly available MongoDB database architectures
• Define and apply best practices for data modeling, schema design, and access patterns
• Design and operate replication and high-availability configurations, including failover behavior and read/write topology optimization
• Implement and manage MongoDB sharding strategies for large datasets and high-throughput workloads
• Perform advanced performance tuning, including:
  • Index strategy design
  • Query and execution plan analysis
  • Aggregation pipeline optimization
  • Connection and session management
  • Capacity planning and workload profiling
• Apply distributed systems principles, balancing consistency, availability, durability, and performance
• Design and validate backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies aligned to defined RPO/RTO objectives
• Establish operational standards, including monitoring, alerting, runbooks, and incident response practices
• Automate database operations, health checks, and diagnostics using Linux scripting (bash and/or Python)
• Integrate MongoDB platforms with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation practices
• Provide guidance on application integration patterns, including drivers, connection pooling, transactions, and ODM/ORM usage where applicable
• Identify and mitigate data integrity, resiliency, security, and operational risks
• Support production stability through proactive diagnostics and root-cause analysis

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on experience working with MongoDB in enterprise production environments
• 8+ years of experience designing and operating replication and high-availability architectures
• 8+ years of experience implementing and managing MongoDB sharding
• 8+ years of experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting at scale
• Strong understanding of distributed systems trade-offs, including replication lag, failure isolation, and multi-region architectures
• 8+ years of experience with backup, restore validation, and disaster recovery practices
• 8+ years of experience with Linux administration and scripting (bash and/or Python)
• Experience integrating MongoDB with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and repeatable deployment practices
• Experience supporting application-level database integration, including driver behavior and transaction semantics

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating databases in large-scale or regulated environments
• Familiarity with containerized or cloud-native database deployments
• Experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions for databases
• Exposure to capacity forecasting and long-term platform planning

This is a Contract position based out of Chandler, AZ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65.06 - $65.06/hr.
