Description
We are looking for an experienced Cobol Systems Programmer to join our team in Downtown Des Moines, Iowa. In this Contract to permanent position, you will play a critical role in maintaining, developing, and optimizing mainframe systems to support our business operations. This role requires a strong technical background in COBOL programming and mainframe environments, coupled with expertise in finance and accounting systems.
Responsibilities:
Develop, test, and debug COBOL programs to ensure smooth functionality within mainframe systems.
Analyze and enhance existing applications to improve performance and reliability.
Collaborate with users and stakeholders to gather requirements and design effective solutions.
Prepare and maintain detailed documentation for program code and system procedures.
Perform regular system evaluations to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary modifications.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting for mainframe systems and applications.
Ensure compliance with organizational standards and industry best practices during development processes.
Manage on-call responsibilities to address urgent system issues and minimize downtime.
Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate mainframe systems with other business applications.
Deliver regular project updates and status reports to keep management informed.
Requirements
Proficiency in COBOL across all versions and extensive experience with IBM mainframe systems.
Strong knowledge of SQL and mainframe application development.
Experience working in mainframe environments with a focus on finance and accounting systems.
Familiarity with actuarial processes and general accounting practices.
Ability to analyze complex systems and propose effective solutions.
Excellent communication skills for interacting with users and technical teams.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in mainframe systems programming.
