Senior Engineer – Ab Initio / OpenShift / ETL Platform
Location: Charlotte, NC (open to relocation Candidates)
Overview
We are seeking a Senior Containerization Engineer to support the modernization of a large-scale enterprise ETL platform. This role is focused on transforming a legacy VM-based deployment model into a scalable, automated, containerized, and cloud-enabled platform architecture.
The ideal candidate will play a key role in containerizing and enabling deployment of Ab Initio, a mission-critical enterprise ETL and data integration platform, onto OpenShift/Kubernetes environments while building enterprise-grade automation and deployment pipelines.
This is a highly technical, hands-on engineering role requiring strong ownership, platform engineering expertise, and the ability to independently drive complex modernization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement containerization strategies for enterprise ETL/data platform components
Lead migration efforts from traditional VM-based deployments to Kubernetes/OpenShift-based infrastructure
Containerize and enable deployment of Ab Initio components within enterprise Kubernetes environments
Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for deployment automation and platform delivery
Build Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions for provisioning, deployment, and operational automation
Onboard multiple Ab Initio components into enterprise deployment mechanisms such as EPOX
Ensure enterprise applications are properly orchestrated, deployed, and managed within Kubernetes/OpenShift clusters
Support critical ETL platform operations responsible for enterprise-wide data movement across:
Private cloud infrastructure
MongoDB, Teradata, and enterprise data stores
Automate platform administration, monitoring, deployment, and operational maintenance activities
Collaborate with infrastructure, DevOps, platform engineering, and data engineering teams
Take ownership of deliverables, proactively identify blockers, and independently drive issue resolution
Contribute to future-state platform engineering initiatives focused on scalability, resiliency, and automation
Required Qualifications
5+ years of relevant engineering experience
Strong hands-on expertise with:
Docker
Kubernetes
OpenShift
Containerization technologies
Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
Automation frameworks
CI/CD pipeline development and maintenance
Proven experience containerizing complex enterprise applications/platforms
Strong understanding of:
Distributed systems
Cloud infrastructure
Deployment orchestration
Platform engineering concepts
Experience working within large-scale enterprise environments
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
Strong experience with Ab Initio (highly preferred)
Background in:
ETL platforms
Data pipelines
Enterprise data engineering
Experience with:
MongoDB
Teradata
Private cloud infrastructure
Enterprise deployment frameworks (EPOX or similar)
Familiarity with enterprise scheduling and automation tools such as AutoSys
Financial services industry experience is a plus
Certifications (Nice to Have)
Candidates with certifications should list them prominently near the top of the resume.
