Role Overview
This is an opportunity to step into a senior engineering role where your work directly impacts large-scale, distributed systems. The position involves owning critical components end-to-end, from design and implementation through deployment and operational support. You will work within a highly technical environment, solving complex system design challenges and taking ownership of production services.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and own large-scale, multi-tiered distributed systems.
- Own the end-to-end delivery of services and system components.
- Apply strong object-oriented design and system architecture principles.
- Develop primarily in Java, with exposure to C++, Python, or TypeScript.
- Work within AWS, Linux, and cloud-native environments.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to support production systems.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and technical teams.
- Produce clear and comprehensive technical documentation.
Required Qualifications
Education: A Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field plus one year of experience, or a Bachelor's degree in a similar field plus five years of progressively responsible experience.
Experience: Must have at least 3+ years of professional software development experience. This includes experience with multi-threaded and distributed programming in Java or C++ on Linux, JDBC, SQL, and Object-Oriented design and design patterns. Candidates must be willing to participate in an on-call rotation.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Java, with knowledge of Python or TypeScript being beneficial. Experience with distributed systems, AWS/cloud computing, CI/CD, Git, and databases is required. A strong understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with the specified client or its web services division.
- Experience with event-driven architectures or microservices.
- Background in DevOps or SRE practices.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation).
- Demonstrated technical leadership or experience owning complex systems.
