Job#: 3024103 Job Description: Senior Software Engineering Manager (Oracle EBS / Java)
Location: Phoenix, Arizona (Hybrid)
Duration: Direct Hire
Employment Type: Permanent
Role Overview
We are seeking a
Senior Software Engineering Manager to serve as a strategic leader and technical right hand to the Head of Engineering. This is a
high-impact role with significant influence over architecture, engineering standards, and future-state platform development. The individual will play a key role in modernizing the organization's technology landscape and building a scalable engineering function from the ground up.
This role is ideal for a
hands-on engineering leader who is comfortable pushing back, setting direction, and driving transformation-not simply executing tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a strong #2 engineering leader, partnering closely with senior leadership to drive strategic initiatives.
- Lead the design and delivery of end-to-end software solutions, integrating modern applications with Oracle EBS as the backend system of record.
- Build and scale an engineering organization using a mix of onshore and offshore contractors and partners.
- Establish modern software development best practices, SDLC discipline, and engineering standards.
- Drive the organization toward a modern, cloud-native architecture layered on top of core enterprise systems.
- Translate business needs into scalable technical solutions, with a focus on long-term platform growth.
- Help evolve the company's technology platform to support a progressive, industry-specific solution.
Technical Requirements
- Strong background in software engineering, with hands-on experience earlier in career.
- Java development background strongly preferred.
- Experience working in an Oracle EBS environment (functional familiarity required; techno-functional expertise not expected).
- Proven ability to design and integrate custom software solutions with Oracle EBS.
- Solid understanding of backend systems of record and modern application architecture.
- Experience with cloud-native applications and services.
Leadership & Experience
- 5+ years of people leadership / management experience.
- Prior experience as a software engineer, not just a people or task manager.
- Demonstrated ability to build teams, processes, and solutions from scratch.
- Strategic mindset with the confidence to challenge ideas and push the organization forward.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments without an existing team or rigid structure.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Order-to-Cash processes.
- Background supporting or modernizing ERP-adjacent platforms.
Current & Future State
- Current environment includes Sage and multiple loosely integrated third-party applications.
- The organization is moving toward a purpose-built platform designed specifically for its industry.
- Architectural blueprints for the commercial side already exist; this role will help refine and execute the broader vision.
What Success Looks Like
- The successful candidate can clearly articulate why this role excites them and how they see themselves shaping the organization.
- They demonstrate the ability to lead strategically, architect thoughtfully, and execute effectively.
- They are viewed as a trusted engineering leader who elevates both the technology and the team.
We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
