Description: Data Platform Engineer, Private Cloud / KubernetesLocation: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid - 3 days onsite)
Duration: 12-month contract (potential extension up to 24 months)
Minimum qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- 5 years of experience in software engineering or platform engineering
- Experience with Kubernetes (OpenShift preferred)
- Experience with Linux systems and enterprise platform environments
Preferred qualifications:- Experience building large-scale, multi-tenant data platforms
- Experience with object storage and distributed execution engines (e.g., Spark, Trino)
- Knowledge of data table formats (e.g., Iceberg, Hive) and metadata/lineage tools (e.g., DataHub)
- Experience implementing observability solutions using tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, PagerDuty, or ThousandEyes
- Experience with infrastructure automation (Terraform, Helm) and GitOps practices (Argo CD preferred)
- Experience with ServiceNow or enterprise ITSM tools
- Understanding of Kubernetes/OpenShift networking (ingress/egress, network policies, segmentation)
About the job:As a Data Platform Engineer, you will help design and build a scalable private cloud platform to support enterprise data analytics workloads. This platform will support 70+ tenant teams and plays a critical role in a large-scale data center migration initiative.
You will focus on core platform engineering while also contributing to tenant onboarding, observability, and security. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the platform is reliable, secure, and ready for production at scale.
Responsibilities:- Design, build, and manage a scalable data platform using Kubernetes and OpenShift
- Develop and integrate core platform components, including compute, storage, and networking layers
- Support infrastructure buildout for data center migration, including load balancing and firewall configuration in partnership with networking teams
- Enable onboarding of multiple tenant teams by defining access models, resource allocation, and environment configurations
- Implement observability solutions, including monitoring, alerting, and dashboards
- Develop automation pipelines for provisioning, deployment, and platform operations
- Implement platform-level security controls and ensure compliance with enterprise standards
- Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, security, and infrastructure teams to deliver scalable solutions
- Support ongoing platform improvements and operational excellence
Additional information:- Experience with NexusOne is a plus but not required
- Candidates without NexusOne experience should demonstrate strong Kubernetes, OpenShift, and Linux expertise
- This role will include both platform engineering and tenant enablement responsibilities
