Position Description:
The Sr. Manager, Cloud Platforms is responsible for ensuring the projects and operations of computing infrastructure (virtual and physical) support the vision and strategy aligned with strategic objectives. This role collaborates with stakeholders, cross-functional team members, and a diverse portfolio of 3rd party vendors in support of current operations, systems updates, and new projects.
A successful Sr. Manager, Cloud Platforms possesses strong diplomatic skills with the ability to communicate with diverse audiences and influence others. The role requires excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking skills with an ability to incorporate emerging technologies with existing solutions. Sr. Manager, Cloud Platforms develops and maintains strong relationships with stakeholders, peers, and direct reports to serve as a thought leader and subject matter expert (SME) for the enterprise computing infrastructure environment.
JOB DUTIES:
Business and IT Strategy:
o Develop tactical and strategic initiatives to achieve enterprise computing/backup goals in collaboration with Institute partners to meet current business needs.
o Manage the development and implementation of IT initiatives in the infrastructure environment to support the strategy.
o Plan, implement, direct, and monitor IT solutions related to computing infrastructure, ensuring successful fulfillment of end-user requirements, proper and accurate testing, and sound implementation.
Technology Management:
o Work with MIT department managers and form alliances on projects, operational decisions, scheduling requirements/conflicts, and vendor contracts clarification.
o Maintain and control budget, schedules, and resources.
o Meet regularly with cross-functional teams to gather work statuses.
Program Management:
o Direct the development, review, and approval of plans, their contents and baselines, and identification of and needed execution of necessary replanning efforts.
o Monitor all project executions, progress to plan and product of major deliverables, intervening when necessary to review the current state and direct adjustments to plans and execution.
Governance:
o Ensure projects fully cooperate with the organizational governance functions and provide oversight for the definition and exercise of regular interaction and reporting required by organizational governance policies.
o May lead or participate on client advisory boards to manage IT service demand.
Financial Management:
o Participate in the development of budgets.
o Track and take appropriate steps to stay within budget.
o Provide high-quality services at optimal costs to customers.
o Measure service performance and implement improvements.
Policies, Processes & Standards:
o Manage the development of enterprise technology standards, governance processes, and performance metrics to ensure they deliver value to the enterprise.
o Ensure the team's adherence to policies, procedures, and standards.
Process Improvements:
o Manage the improvement processes that impact customer satisfaction and relationships.
o Own designated processes and be accountable for ensuring established processes are followed.
Vendor Management:
o Provide advice and counsel throughout vendor relationship decision-making and contract development processes.
o Review service provider performance.
o Identify and confirm performance problems and notify contract managers.
Resources & Talent Management:
o Manage individual contributors, consultants, and/or managed service staff.
o Establish and implement measurable individual and team objectives that are aligned with IS&T organizational goals.
o Provide managerial oversight or influence of work to accomplish short- to mid-term objectives.
o Ensure work, information, ideas, and technology flow freely across teams.
o Provide input on performance evaluations, pay decisions, and recruitment.
o Adhere to organizational practices for staffing, EEO, diversity, performance management, development, reward and recognition, and retention.
Workforce Planning:
o Identify roles, skills, and knowledge required to achieve goals.
o Ensure the team has the resources and skills needed to support all work initiatives within multiple teams or functions.
REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree (or equivalent work experience) and a minimum of 10 years of experience in computer science, information systems, business administration, or another related field are required.
Experience managing teams and building relationships with people at multiple levels is required.
Demonstrated experience with enterprise computing and virtualization technology in the cloud and on-premises environments required.
Demonstrated experience with enterprise backup infrastructure and software (i.e. Rubrik, Tivoli Storage Manager). 3 of 3
Demonstrated ability to launch and deliver multiple IT projects on time and within budget.
Excellent (oral and written) communication and presentation skills required.
Must possess a strong ability to partner with business leaders to identify cross-functional opportunities that integrate organizational and technological strategies, meet externally benchmarked criteria, and integrate client-specific operational requirements as they relate to the organizational strategy.
Possess a strong ability to determine the capabilities of the team and/or function to maximize resources.
Possesses a strong ability to develop business cases for strategic initiatives by defining rationale, cost benefits, and planning assumptions for proposals.
