Role Title: SAP Technical Architect
Duration: 6 month contract to hire
Preferred Location: Hybrid (2 days onsite) Lancaster, PA
We’re seeking an SAP Technical Architect to own the stability, performance, and evolution of our SAP landscape. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with vendor oversight and architectural planning.
You’ll be responsible for keeping the SAP ecosystem running reliably day-to-day, while also guiding how it grows and integrates with other business systems. This includes working closely with business stakeholders, internal IT, and external partners to ensure SAP solutions are practical, scalable, and aligned with business needs.
This is not purely strategic, you’ll be expected to stay close to operations, support escalations, and drive execution.
Key Responsibilities
SAP Operations & Support
- Ensure uptime, performance, and reliability of SAP systems (e.g., ECC/S4, integrations, bolt-ons)
- Oversee incident management, root cause analysis, and resolution of critical issues
- Partner with support teams to streamline L1/L2/L3 support processes
Vendor & AMS Management
- Manage SAP Managed Services provider and other vendors
- Hold partners accountable to SLAs (response time, resolution, system availability)
- Coordinate delivery across third-party applications (e.g., ShipERP, Bartender, Magento)
Architecture & Solution Design
- Design and evolve SAP technical architecture (infrastructure, integrations, extensions)
- Translate business requirements into scalable SAP solutions
- Define integration patterns across SAP and non-SAP systems
Integration & Systems Connectivity
- Lead design and support of integrations (APIs, middleware, IDocs, etc.)
- Ensure systems work cohesively across finance, supply chain, and eCommerce platforms
Change, Maintenance & Upgrades
- Plan and oversee SAP upgrades, patches, and enhancements
- Ensure proper change management and minimize business disruption
- Maintain system documentation and architecture standards
Process Improvement
- Identify inefficiencies in SAP operations and recommend improvements
- Drive standardization across support, release, and delivery processes
Project Support & Planning
- Contribute to project estimates, solution proposals, and technical roadmaps
- Support delivery of SAP-related initiatives and enhancements
Required Qualifications
Core Experience
- 8+ years of SAP technical experience (Basis, architecture, or technical leadership)
- Experience supporting and maintaining SAP environments (ECC and/or S/4HANA)
- Proven experience working with SAP Managed Services or external vendors
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of SAP architecture (Basis, transports, integrations)
- Experience with SAP integrations (IDocs, APIs, middleware such as PI/PO, CPI, or similar)
- Familiarity with SAP bolt-ons or connected systems (e.g., WMS, eCommerce, labeling tools)
