Description: Our client is currently seeking a Storage Engineer

Storage Engineer - Storage, Veeam, Veeam Vault, data governance, Hyper-V storage integration

mostly remote, some onsite in College Station
Role Purpose

Support and stabilize storage, backup, and data management capabilities within the Texas environment. This role goes beyond traditional backend storage administration and requires strong experience across data access management, backup and recovery, and data governance, in addition to core storage and infrastructure knowledge. The Storage Engineer will assess and improve the current backup landscape, support migration to modern Veeam and Veeam Vault architectures, and ensure storage platforms are correctly aligned with existing Hyper-V cluster infrastructure. The role also plays a key part in improving unstructured data ownership, classification, and governance to support long-term scalability and compliance.
Key Responsibilities

Assess current storage infrastructure including Data Domain, Nimble, and SAN/NAS systems and document dependencies

Evaluate and document current Veeam backup environment, job configurations, and retention policies

Design and implement Veeam 12 architecture with Hyper-V integration and AWS cloud tier

Support migration to Veeam Vault architecture for long-term data retention and compliance

Configure and optimize Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV) for Hyper-V cluster storage

Develop and execute storage migration plan from legacy platforms to new infrastructure

Plan and execute Nimble array decommissioning with proper data validation and cleanup

Configure backup policies aligned with RPO/RTO requirements gathered from application owners

Implement monitoring, alerting, and reporting for backup job success/failure

Assess unstructured data across file shares and identify ownership gaps

Develop data classification framework and governance procedures for file share data

Support file share migration and consolidation efforts

Ensure storage and backup configurations meet GxP compliance requirements

Provide knowledge transfer to site operations team on storage and Veeam operations

Update CMDB and asset management systems with storage and backup infrastructure changes

Required Skills & Experience

5+ years of enterprise storage administration experience

Strong expertise with Veeam Backup & Replication v11 or higher, preferably v12

Experience with Veeam integration to AWS S3 and Glacier storage tiers

Knowledge of Veeam Vault or similar long-term archive solutions

Experience with Data Domain systems and backup integration

Experience with HPE Nimble arrays including decommissioning procedures

Strong understanding of SAN/NAS technologies (iSCSI, FC, SMB, NFS)

Experience with Cluster Shared Volumes for Hyper-V environments

Understanding of data governance, classification, and lifecycle management

Experience with file share management and unstructured data assessment

Preferred Qualifications

Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE) certification

Experience in pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environments

Knowledge of GxP backup and data integrity requirements

PowerShell scripting for storage and backup automation

Experience with data governance tools and frameworks

AWS Solutions Architect certification or cloud storage experience
