Role Overview
We are seeking a Principal Data Scientist to lead the development and production deployment of advanced forecasting models for Load, Solar, and Wind generation. This role is integral to supporting critical decision-making for energy management, power marketing, and system operations. The ideal candidate will build and engineer production-ready forecasting solutions, integrate them with internal systems and AWS cloud infrastructure, and mentor other data scientists on the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end model development lifecycle, from conception through production deployment, for load, solar, and wind forecasting.
- Design and implement production-ready forecasting solutions with robust error handling, alerting, and recovery procedures.
- Build APIs and engineer data layers to move models into production environments.
- Develop data connectors for weather APIs and data warehouse systems.
- Design and manage scalable data pipelines for both real-time and batch forecasting operations.
- Create interactive dashboards using tools like Streamlit to present insights and model performance to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with trading, operations, and engineering teams to understand business priorities and deliver high-quality solutions.
- Provide mentorship and technical leadership to other data scientists on the team.
Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field is required.
Experience: 6-10 years of professional data science experience, including a proven track record of developing and deploying production forecasting models (e.g., ARIMA, SARIMAX, gradient boosting methods).
Technical Skills:- Advanced proficiency in Python and its data science libraries (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, statsmodels).
- Demonstrated experience taking models from development to production with proper versioning, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Working knowledge of AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, SageMaker) and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
- Proficiency with SQL databases, including large-scale data queries and optimization.
- Experience consuming and integrating weather APIs and other external data sources into forecasting pipelines.
- Experience building interactive dashboards using frameworks such as Streamlit or Plotly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with advanced feature engineering, uncertainty quantification, and probabilistic forecasting methods.
- Prior leadership experience in a data science capacity.
- Familiarity with Agile project management tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Domain expertise in energy markets or renewable generation forecasting.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated pay range for this position is $65.00/hr to $90.00/hr. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and experience.
