About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced
Senior Systems Engineer / Server Engineer with deep expertise in VMware technologies-specifically
vSphere 8.x, vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, VDS, VRealize Automation, and VRealize Operations. This role will support enterprise-level server infrastructure initiatives, documentation efforts, and knowledge transfer activities. The engineer will play a key part in assessing, optimizing, and migrating large-scale VMware environments while ensuring reliability, performance, and security across complex distributed systems.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing server and VMware environments to identify configuration gaps, performance issues, and improvement opportunities.
- Contribute to the design and deployment of optimized server architectures supporting large-scale, distributed footprints.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation, including topology diagrams, configuration guides, connectivity maps, and operational procedures.
- Ensure all materials adhere to organizational compliance expectations, including security and password-management standards.
- Deliver cross-training sessions and knowledge-transfer workshops to internal teams as needed.
- Develop written training materials, process guides, and reference documentation.
- Provide Tier 3 support for server-related escalations.
- Collaborate closely with network, engineering, and application teams to resolve issues and support ongoing initiatives.
- Participate in capacity planning, disaster recovery exercises, and environment readiness reviews.
- Support VMware lifecycle tasks including configuration, optimization, and migrations.
- Contribute to both in-place upgrades and greenfield implementations as part of broader infrastructure modernization efforts.
- Assist in developing repeatable migration processes for large-scale environment transitions.
Requirements Required Qualifications- 5+ years of experience in server engineering or systems administration
- Hands-on experience with:
- VRealize Automation
- VRealize Operations
- VMware vSphere 8.x, ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, VDS
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities
- Experience delivering documentation, training, and knowledge-sharing
- Familiarity with enterprise documentation tools
- Experience with automation tools such as PowerShell or Ansible
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent experience)
Preferred Qualifications- VMware VCP-DCV certification
- Python scripting or Ansible experience
- Experience with VMware component stacks including:
- VRealize Automation
- VRealize Operations
- VRealize Log Insight
- Understanding of hardware infrastructure (hands-on work not required)
