Job#: 3025823 Job Description: Apex Systems is seeking an AWS Web Application Firewall Engineer for a large financial client. The position is a 7 mo. Contract position (with the possibility of further extension or conversion) that requires candidates to sit fully onsite in Atlanta, GA. AWS Web Application Firewall Engineer
Pay Range: $72-75/hr.
Contract position through the end of 2026 (further extension/conversion to full time possible)
Hybrid Schedule (3 days onsite/2 days remote)
Role Responsibilities:
- Engineer, operate and optimize AWS WAF, Firewall Manager policies, bot mitigation controls and Shield Advanced protections.
- Support threat detection, rule tuning, log analysis, and response activities across business-critical applications.
- Maintain and enhance security controls embedded in the software development lifecycle (SDLC), ensuring secure design, development, deployment and monitoring of application workloads.
- Provide advanced technical guidance to application teams, ensuring alignment with enterprise cloud.
Required Skills:
- Hands-on expertise with AWS WAF, AWS Firewall Manager, AWS Common Bot Control, and AWS Shield Advanced protections.
- Ability to support real-time incident response, including rapid rule tuning, mitigation actions, and traffic analysis
- Strong proficiency in creating and maintaining WAF policies, rule groups, and bot-mitigation controls across multi-account environments
- Solid understanding of application-layer security, OWASP Top 10 threats, bot traffic patterns, and L7 DDoS
Preferred Skills:
- Terraform experience
- Experience using Splunk and ServiceNow
- Prior experience with Wiz
