Summary

Description

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a collaborative product engineering team supporting applications within a highly regulated environment. This is a hands-on technical role for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, contributing to technical design, and partnering closely with Product, Architecture, and business teams.

The organization has recently transitioned to a product operating model, creating an opportunity for an experienced engineer to help shape and continuously improve products that support important compliance and regulatory functions.

This position will have a strong voice in technical discussions and will work closely with architecture and engineering leadership to design, develop, integrate, and improve enterprise applications.

What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, enhance, and support enterprise applications using Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.
  • Partner closely with Architects and Staff Engineers on technical design, engineering practices, integrations, and detailed-level architecture.
  • Translate business and product requirements into scalable, maintainable technical solutions.
  • Develop and support application integrations using Kafka and RabbitMQ.
  • Work with relational databases and write SQL using technologies such as Oracle and DB2.
  • Support application deployments and development processes using GitHub and OpenShift.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and identify effective solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with Product teams and business partners to understand needs, evaluate options, and deliver solutions.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, refinement, stand-ups, and biweekly retrospectives.
  • Communicate progress, risks, challenges, and technical recommendations to team members and Product leadership.
  • Mentor and support other engineers by sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI and automation to streamline development, improve efficiency, and reduce repetitive work.
  • Constructively challenge technical or business decisions when appropriate and help teams work through differing perspectives.

Requirements

What You'll Need
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java.
  • Experience developing applications using Spring and Spring Boot.
  • Experience with OpenShift.
  • Experience using GitHub within a software development and deployment process.
  • Strong SQL experience with relational databases such as Oracle and/or DB2.
  • Experience with messaging and integration technologies such as Kafka and/or RabbitMQ.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the confidence to respectfully challenge ideas and discuss technical tradeoffs.
  • Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to other engineers.
  • Interest in using AI and automation to improve development processes and team efficiency.

What Will Make You Successful

The successful candidate will be more than someone who can write code. You will be someone who can understand the business problem, contribute to the technical solution, communicate your perspective, and work effectively across Product, Architecture, Engineering, and business teams.

You should be comfortable asking questions, challenging an approach when you see a better solution, working through disagreements professionally, and taking ownership of problems from design through implementation.

Senior-Level Expectations

In this role, you will be expected to:
  • Take ownership of technical solutions rather than simply completing assigned development tasks.
  • Contribute to application and integration design.
  • Partner closely with Architecture and Staff Engineering.
  • Help establish and improve engineering practices.
  • Mentor other engineers and share technical expertise.
  • Understand the business purpose behind the technology and make thoughtful technical recommendations.
  • Balance technical considerations with product, business, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
