Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Juniper Network Engineer for an IT applications and infrastructure services program. This position provides expert-level network engineering support to manage and maintain the equipment, networks, and web applications that support field communications systems. The role requires working independently in a dynamic environment, focusing on meeting customer needs effectively. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with strong communication skills to interface with customers and translate requirements into actions.
Key Responsibilities
- Work within the configuration management process to ensure consistent and secure modifications to equipment.
- Provide network engineering operations and maintenance (O&M) support for a mission-critical government system as the Subject Matter Expert (SME).
- Manage Juniper SRX-series security devices, ensuring configurations are consistent with industry best practices and FISMA standards.
- Implement and manage Juniper EX-series switches using 1Gbps & 10Gbps backplanes, including high availability (HA) configurations.
- Administer Cisco Firepower ASA firewalls using AnyConnect for client VPN access, ensuring secure configuration and connectivity.
- Design and maintain an out-of-band (OOB) management network using serial consoles and other technologies.
- Collaborate with personnel, contractors, and vendors in the design and specification of Private IP (PIP) and Internet circuits.
- Ensure high availability of Network Time Protocol (NTP) across all networks.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation and diagrams for field communications systems, equipment, and networks.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of experience, or a Master's degree with 10+ years of experience. A high school diploma with an additional 4+ years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Extensive experience is required in providing O&M support to complex, mission-critical systems, as well as designing, implementing, and configuring network infrastructure.
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues is necessary.
- Expertise as a Subject Matter Expert on Juniper network infrastructure.
- Extensive experience with Juniper SRX-series branch routers, Juniper EX-series switches, Cisco Firepower ASA firewalls, AnyConnect VPN clients, TrippLite serial consoles, Ethernet & TDMA delivered Private IP & Internet circuits, Private APN cellular networks, and Network Time Protocol (NTP).
- Familiarity with information security (IS) best practices, FISMA, and configuration management processes is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Security Engineering experience.
- Participation in the Authority to Operate (ATO) process.
- Experience in Business Analysis or requirements development.
- Technical writing and documentation experience.
- Previous government contracting experience.
