Position Overview
We are seeking a Junior PHP Support Engineer to provide production support, bug resolution, and performance optimization for web applications. The ideal candidate should have foundational experience in PHP development and application support, with a strong willingness to learn and troubleshoot issues in live production environments.
This role serves as the technical bridge between engineering and operations by assisting with issue triage, root cause analysis, and timely resolution of application incidents.
Key Responsibilities
Production Support
- Monitor, triage, and resolve PHP application issues across production environments within defined SLAs.
- Support incident management activities and assist in troubleshooting production issues.
- Work closely with development and operations teams to ensure application stability and availability.
Bug Fixes & Code Support
- Diagnose and fix defects in PHP applications.
- Assist in deploying hotfixes and patches with minimal service disruption.
- Review application code to identify bugs, security concerns, and performance issues.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance application reliability.
Application & Database Support
- Demonstrate an understanding of the Web Application Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Write and optimize SQL queries to support application functionality and issue resolution.
- Troubleshoot database-related issues involving MySQL and PostgreSQL environments.
- Support data validation and application performance monitoring activities.
API & Integration Support
- Assist in debugging and supporting RESTful APIs and third-party integrations.
- Monitor API performance and help identify and resolve integration issues.
- Collaborate with development teams to troubleshoot connectivity and service-related problems.
Monitoring & Reporting Tools
- Utilize monitoring and reporting tools such as:
- Analyze logs and reports to identify trends, incidents, and recurring issues.
Root Cause Analysis & Documentation
- Participate in root cause investigations for recurring application issues.
- Document findings and contribute to implementing long-term solutions.
- Maintain runbooks, incident logs, troubleshooting guides, and known-error documentation.
- Create and update technical documentation and support procedures.
Required Skills
- Foundational experience with PHP and PHP-based web applications.
- Basic understanding of the Web Application Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Knowledge of SQL and relational databases, including MySQL and PostgreSQL.
- Understanding of RESTful APIs and third-party service integrations.
- Familiarity with application monitoring and reporting tools such as Splunk and Tableau.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production support environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
- 0-2 years of experience in PHP development, application support, or a related role.
- Internship or academic project experience with PHP web applications is a plus.
- Eagerness to learn, adapt, and grow in a production support and web application environment.
