IT Administrator
Purpose
Responsible for maintaining, supporting, and optimizing the company's IT network infrastructure, servers, and end-user systems. This role ensures the stability, security, and performance of both on-prem and remote environments.
Principal Accountabilities
- Serve as one of the primary internal contacts for network- and server-related issues across headquarters and remote sites.
- Act as a helpdesk technician, managing and resolving incoming IT support requests.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, network, and server-related issues.
- Perform server administration and troubleshooting across Microsoft environments, including Active Directory and enterprise systems.
- Manage and support virtualized environments, including VMware and Hyper-V (including migration efforts between platforms).
- Support and maintain Microsoft servers and SQL data management systems.
- Coordinate with third-party vendors and external support providers to resolve escalated issues.
- Configure, deploy, and maintain PCs, laptops, and peripheral devices.
- Provide support for phone/telephony systems.
- Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes, including provisioning and deprovisioning system access.
- Ensure the stability and uptime of critical infrastructure, with careful handling of sensitive production servers.
Nature and Scope
This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret user issues, diagnose root causes, and implement effective solutions. Success depends on strong organizational and prioritization abilities, as well as the capability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
The position involves frequent interaction with employees across all levels and external vendors, requiring excellent communication skills and a calm, professional demeanor.
The role is primarily sedentary with extended computer use but may involve occasional physical activity such as lifting up to 30 pounds, walking, or handling IT equipment.
Background Experience and Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or certifications preferred.
- 1-5 years of hands-on IT support experience in a corporate or enterprise environment.
Technical Skills
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs).
- Strong experience supporting Microsoft environments, including Windows Server and Active Directory.
- Hands-on experience with server administration and troubleshooting in production environments.
- Experience managing virtualized environments, including VMware and/or Hyper-V.
- Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server or other database systems is highly preferred.
- Experience supporting remote servers and distributed infrastructure environments.
- Knowledge of endpoint configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting (PCs, laptops, peripherals).
- Exposure to telephony/VoIP systems is a plus.
Certifications (Preferred)
- MCSE or equivalent Microsoft certification preferred.
- Additional certifications (CompTIA Network+, Server+, VMware, or similar) are a plus.
