Job Description:
Job Title: Software QA Engineer - Manual Linux QA
Location: Onsite (Not Remote)
About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Software QA Engineer with strong manual testing expertise on Linux-based systems to join a talented engineering team building next-generation connected vehicle products and services from the ground up. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a startup-style environment, enjoys creative problem solving, and is excited to work with cutting-edge automotive and embedded technologies.

You will play a critical role in ensuring product quality across complex, large-scale systems while collaborating closely with Product Owners, Developers, and Automation Engineers. This is a hands-on role requiring deep attention to detail, curiosity, and a strong passion for delivering seamless end-user experiences.

Note: This position is onsite only and not eligible for remote work.
Responsibilities
  • Write, execute, and maintain manual functional and system-level test cases for a large-scale distributed system composed of services written in multiple programming paradigms (primarily Rust, as well as functional and procedural languages).
  • Translate user stories, requirements, and technical designs into comprehensive manual test scenarios and test cases, ensuring complete coverage and testability.
  • Perform manual testing on Linux-based systems, including command-line validation, log analysis, configuration verification, and system behavior validation.
  • Execute test cases on connected vehicle hardware, identifying defects that are not exposed through automation or standard Scrum workflows.
  • Perform ad-hoc and exploratory testing on embedded and vehicle hardware to uncover edge cases and real-world usage issues.
  • Execute existing manual test suites on vehicle hardware in the office and update test results for inclusion in release and quality reports.
  • Verify bug fixes on hardware for issues identified internally as well as from external Toyota teams.
  • Work closely with Product Owners to support user acceptance testing (UAT) and gather end-user feedback.
  • Partner with Development teams to document, track, triage, and validate defects using Jira within an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Collaborate with Test Automation Engineers by supporting automation efforts, validating automation coverage, and executing automation-assisted test runs.
  • Assist in estimating, prioritizing, and planning manual testing activities across multiple releases.
  • Ensure traceability between requirements, test cases, defects, and releases.
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of hands-on software testing experience, with a strong emphasis on manual testing.
  • Proven experience creating, maintaining, and executing manual test suites for complex systems.
  • Strong experience working on Linux-based systems, including:
    • Command-line usage (bash, shell utilities)
    • Review and analysis of system and application logs
    • Verifying system services, processes, and configurations
  • Experience testing APIs (REST, RPC, or similar) using manual or lightweight tooling.
  • Experience testing software on hardware devices using developed user interfaces.
  • Familiarity with one or more test management tools such as Zephyr Squad, TestRail, TestLink, qTest, or similar.
  • Experience using Jira (or similar tools) for defect tracking and ensuring traceability across requirements, tests, and defects.
  • Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies, including estimation, prioritization, and sprint-based testing activities.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to think like an end user and test beyond documented requirements.
  • Passion for delivering high-quality software and an exceptional end-user experience.
  • Willingness to perform primarily manual QA, with openness to supporting or learning test automation.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
  • Experience testing embedded systems or automotive software.
  • Experience or interest in mobile application testing.
  • Exposure to Rust, Golang, or other systems programming languages.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Software development experience (helpful but not required).
  • Experience validating distributed systems or microservice-based architectures.
Education
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is valued.
  • Equivalent practical experience is strongly considered - talent and hands-on expertise trump formal education.
Why Join Us?
  • Work on next-generation connected vehicle technology
  • Collaborate with a passionate, highly skilled cross-functional team
  • Tackle complex technical challenges with real-world impact
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, innovative, and highly collaborative environment
