Application Developer

Location: Birmingham, AL or Forest Park, GA (Hybrid)

Employment Type: Contract

Role Overview

An opportunity is available for an Application Developer to join a cutting-edge digital team. The ideal candidate will have working knowledge in developing all layers of an application, including services, database, and presentation. This individual will be involved in the full systems life cycle and is responsible for designing, coding, testing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting application software delivered on time and within budget.

Must haves:
  • Strong expertise in C# and .NET, including building and maintaining console and desktop applications
  • Proven debugging and problem-solving skills, with experience supporting production systems and implementing enhancements
  • Hands-on experience reading, writing, parsing, and manipulating XML and JSON files, including file-based workflows and directory operations
  • Background developing operational tools for substations, supporting lifecycle management, configuration, and standardized repeatable processes
  • Experience exporting production data, executing new code releases, and providing ongoing production support using tools such as R-tech and native XML formats
  • Preferred experience with Angular, TypeScript, and Blazor, with familiarity across .NET-focused application development


Key Responsibilities
  • Design, code, debug, and implement software applications.
  • Write new programs or create modifications to existing applications based on project requirements.
  • Develop and support .NET and C# applications.
  • Build and maintain operational tools supporting substations, lifecycle management, and configuration.
  • Work with R-Tech tools and native XML files.
  • Export and manage production data.
  • Participate in software system testing, validation procedures, and documentation.
  • Provide production support during standard business hours.
Required Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems is required.

Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience in software development is required. Experience developing in PHP 5+, Java, or Objective-C is necessary. Recent college graduates with relevant internship experience will be considered.

Technical Skills: Proven hands-on software development experience is required. Knowledge of commonly used concepts within the software development field is necessary, including design patterns, git flow, debugging, MVC application architecture, and continuous integration. Experience integrating with third-party APIs / SDKs is also required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Agile development practices.
  • An engineering degree or experience in the utilities industry.
