Role Overview
This position supports large-scale construction projects by identifying, analyzing, and resolving recurring equipment installation issues across multiple job sites. The Project Engineer will act as a technical liaison between construction teams, general contractors, and equipment vendors. The primary objective is to improve equipment design, packaging, and delivery standards to enable smoother, more consistent installations in the field, with a focus on Owner-Furnished, Contractor-Installed (OFCI) mechanical equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with on-site construction stakeholders, including General Contractor (GC) Project Managers, Superintendents, and Mechanical Subcontractor teams.
- Meet with Project Managers and Foremen to gather feedback on equipment installation processes.
- Identify recurring equipment installation issues observed across multiple construction sites and analyze root causes for variances between sites.
- Consolidate field feedback into actionable inputs for equipment vendors and manufacturers to drive improvements in standardization and packaging.
- Track installation issues, trends, and resolutions using project tracking tools like Procore.
- Distinguish between field execution issues and upstream design, manufacturing, or packaging gaps to influence uniform production standards.
- Support internal teams with insights that improve procurement decisions, vendor selection, and equipment specifications.
Required Qualifications
Education: A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience is required.
Experience: Experience managing or supporting mechanical scopes of work on large construction projects, preferably in data center or mission-critical facilities, is required. A strong understanding of construction means and methods related to equipment installation and commissioning is necessary.
Technical Skills: Experience with project tracking tools such as Procore or an equivalent is needed. The ability to identify root causes of field issues and translate them into process or design improvements is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a Project Engineer or Field Engineer with a General Contractor, with data center experience.
- Background as a Construction Project Manager, Commissioning Engineer, or Procurement Specialist.
- Hands-on experience managing OFCI equipment installations.
Work Environment
This is a field-based role with regular presence required on active construction sites. Installation cycles for equipment scope typically range from one to three weeks. The role involves collaboration across construction, engineering, procurement, and vendor teams.
Compensation & Benefits
The pay rate for this position is between $70.00 and $90.00 per hour.
