Data Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a Data Engineer in Salt Lake City, UT.

Summary:
This position was created to add dedicated data engineering capacity following the departure of a team member who previously split time between analytics and engineering. This candidate needs to be located in SLC and this is mostly onsite position.

Business Need & Current Initiatives:
* Significant data conversion
* Reporting continuity during transition
* Ongoing definition of long-term data architecture

Historically, reporting was done by copying production databases and running reports directly against them. BRM is now investing in a data lake / unified data platform to:
* Improve data delivery and access control
* Increase reporting scalability
* Better support business stakeholders across the organization

The Data Engineer will play a key role in driving this transformation while working closely with the Principal Engineer, who currently owns architecture but is bandwidth constrained due to production support responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
* Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT data pipelines
* Ingest and transform data from raw source systems
* Partner with engineering and business teams to support reporting and analytics needs
* Help define best practices in a greenfield data environment
* Ensure data is reliable, scalable, and accessible to downstream users
* Communicate data concepts clearly to both technical and non technical stakeholders

REQUIREMENTS:
* 2-6 years of professional data engineering experience (mid to senior level)
* Strong experience with Databricks (core requirement)
* Proficiency in Python and SQL
* Hands-on experience building data pipelines from raw data sources
* Solid understanding of how data moves from source pipeline output
* Comfortable working in ambiguous, evolving environments
* Cloud experience
* Communications with stakeholders and customer experience

Experience in cloud environments:
* Azure preferred
* AWS Databricks experience acceptable
* Must be open to working in a Microsoft/Azure ecosystem

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
