Job#: 3020085 Job Description: Position OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented CAD Technician to support an Outage Program Sequencing Team. This role involves creating outage "story books" that visually communicate when portions of the electrical grid-such as substations and distribution lines-can be taken offline. The technician will help ensure efficient sequencing of utility projects, delivering highly accurate CAD updates with quick turnaround.
The ideal candidate is proactive, interested in improving workflows, comfortable introducing new tools, and motivated to grow into a leadership role.
Key Responsibilities- Review scoping documents provided by engineering teams
- Analyze existing one-line diagrams for accuracy
- Perform "plug-and-play" CAD updates, including removals, revisions, and additions
- Begin with redline drafting and perform detailed quality verification
- Recreate one-line diagrams in AutoCAD and assemble full drawing packages (approximately 30 drawings per project)
- Follow established client standards, templates, and documentation procedures
- Produce fast-turnaround drawing updates while maintaining high quality
- Work within 2D CAD workflows to support outage sequencing documentation
Required Experience & Qualifications- 2-3 years of CAD drafting experience
- Associate degree preferred (Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design, or similar field)
- Background in electrical, civil, or mechanical drafting
- Proficiency with AutoCAD
- Understanding of one-line diagrams
- Knowledge of utility and substation equipment
- Ability to work efficiently with strong attention to detail
- Strong verbal communication skills and willingness to ask questions
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with CAD automation or scripting workflows
- Prior experience in the utility or power industry
- Familiarity with AI-powered productivity tools (e.g., ChatGPT+)
