Description
As an Engineer 2, you will use technical expertise and professional concepts to solve complex business problems. This role requires serving as a subject matter expert within your area of focus and representing the team on advanced initiatives. You will evaluate the effectiveness of existing technologies through requirements gathering, testing, research, and investigation, and make recommendations that improve quality, performance, and reliability.
You will collaborate with stakeholders to assess needs and deliver high-quality technical solutions aligned with business objectives. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to operational excellence.
As an Engineer 2, Database Administration, you will play a key role in the implementation, maintenance, and support of Oracle production databases. Responsibilities include monitoring daily database activity, performance, capacity growth, tuning configurations, and enforcing database security standards. You will also contribute to process improvements and change management initiatives. This role is well-suited for a self-starter who can consistently meet service level agreements and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop scripted automation for Oracle database tasks
- Implement and support patching coordination, backup and recovery procedures, database utilities, and data replication technologies across production and non-production environments
- Create and maintain UNIX and SQL scripts for automation, monitoring, and reporting
- Log, schedule, and track changes using change management tools
- Perform corrections and troubleshooting related to database infrastructure and system issues
- Incorporate security and compliance considerations into all technical decisions
- Partner with application teams and database administrators to ensure database compliance standards are met
Qualifications
Required
- Authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements
- 3+ years of experience with Unix Korn Shell scripting
- 3+ years of experience with Python scripting
- 3+ years of experience in an Oracle DBA or related role
- 3+ years of experience working with Oracle database platforms
- Strong Oracle DBA expertise, including upgrades, patching, and RMAN backup/recovery
- Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) version 10g or higher
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts at appropriate levels of detail
- Proven teamwork, decision-making, documentation, and analytical skills
- Knowledge of IT Service Management best practices (Incident, Problem, and Change Management)
- Experience securing confidential and highly confidential database content
- Demonstrated commitment to embedding security into day-to-day responsibilities
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- 1+ year of hands-on experience with Oracle 19c
- Experience with additional database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server, MariaDB, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
- Experience with Oracle Data Guard, including physical and active configurations
- Knowledge of database encryption techniques
- Experience with Perl, Bash, and JavaScript
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
- Project management experience
- Knowledge of PCI or other IT security compliance standards
