About the RoleWe are seeking a
Senior Database Engineer to support and enhance our next-generation data platforms, with a primary focus on
MongoDB, EDB PostgreSQL, and YugabyteDB. This role is essential to the strategic expansion of our NextGen Datacenters and will drive operational excellence, automation, and innovation across our database ecosystem.
The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on experience in database operations, strong Python programming skills, and a passion for automating large-scale systems.
Key ResponsibilitiesDatabase Engineering & Operations- Lead and contribute to the design, deployment, and management of highly complex MongoDB, EDB PostgreSQL, and YugabyteDB database environments.
- Perform end-to-end planning, research, design, implementation, maintenance, and control of enterprise-level databases.
- Build clusters, install database and middleware software, and support environments through the full software lifecycle (STLC).
- Develop high-availability, resiliency, and replication strategies for high-tier applications.
Architecture, Security & Best Practices- Design and implement security controls including CIS benchmarks, auditing, and compliance-aligned standards.
- Define and certify next-generation database technologies and patterns.
- Establish and maintain policies, procedures, operational standards, and best practices.
Automation & Tooling- Lead automation initiatives to eliminate manual processes, reduce MTTR, and improve SLA adherence.
- Develop Python-based automation for operational tasks, including support for PCMS (NGTC migration tool).
- Drive adoption of consistent operational frameworks across the database organization.
- Explore GenAI / Agentic AI opportunities for database monitoring, alerting, and workflow automation.
Collaboration & Leadership- Act as a technical advisor to management and partner teams on high-impact database decisions.
- Collaborate closely with peers, application teams, and stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve incidents.
- Provide subject-matter expertise on new database features, tools, and emerging technologies.
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule (approx. once every 2-2.5 months; comp-off day provided post-rotation).
Required Qualifications- 5+ years of hands-on experience in database operations with MongoDB, EDB PostgreSQL, and YugabyteDB.
- Strong Python programming skills for automation (preferred).
- Experience with operational automation tools and practices.
- Familiarity with AI/GenAI/Agentic AI automation concepts (nice to have).
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in the financial services industry
- Expertise with modern automation ecosystems and database alerting tools.
Work Model & Support Structure- 70% operations / 30% development, heavily focused on hands-on engineering.
- 24x7 support model via India team rotation (US 12-hour shifts + India 12-hour shifts).
- Tickets prioritized P1-P5 with strict SLA compliance (P1 = bank-wide outage).
- Strong partnership required with application teams during incident resolution.
