As a Senior Database Administrator, you will help modernize and strengthen the database platforms that support our core B2B financial services. Partnering closely with engineering and product teams, you will support large-scale platforms in a fast-moving, agile environment. Your work-ranging from hands-on development and administration to strategic planning-will directly enable the scalable, reliable, and secure client-facing applications our business depends on.
Responsibilities - Support and evolve Oracle (primary), PostgreSQL, and SQL Server environments through routine maintenance, lifecycle management, migrations, upgrades, and automation.
- Tune and optimize performance, availability, and reliability through capacity planning, indexing strategies, and workload analysis.
- Execute patching and change management, including scheduled after-hours and weekend maintenance when necessary.
- Troubleshoot production issues end-to-end, develop maintenance scripts, and drive root-cause resolutions to prevent future recurrence.
- Maintain and test high availability and disaster recovery capabilities, focusing on failover readiness, recovery processes, and operational validation.
- Implement and enforce database security concepts, including access controls, auditing, and compliance-aligned operations.
- Create and maintain clear technical documentation, operational runbooks, and knowledge artifacts.
- Mentor junior and mid-level team members through coaching, pair programming, and peer reviews.
Minimum qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 12+ years of hands-on Oracle Database Administration experience, including RAC (Real Application Clusters), ASM, and Data Guard.
- Experience with DEV and PROD DBA responsibilities, including upgrades, migrations, patching, backup/recovery, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
- Proficiency with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and GoldenGate.
- Advanced SQL and PL/SQL skills, with a proven track record in performance tuning and optimization.
- Experience with scripting and automation (e.g., shell scripting, Perl, PowerShell) to streamline operational tasks.
- Experience developing or supporting ETL and data movement processes for large datasets.
- Experience using collaboration and CI/CD tools such as Jira, Confluence, Remedy, Bamboo, and Bitbucket.
- Ability to work on-site, participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, and accommodate weekend, night shift, or standard US working hours as required.
Preferred qualifications - Experience with PostgreSQL administration (including pgAdmin) on-premises or in the cloud; Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL experience is a strong plus.
- Experience in SQL Server administration and performance tuning.
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification.
- Background in designing enterprise solutions for backup, monitoring, alerting, security compliance, and patching.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., GitHub, GitHub Actions).
- Prior experience working within the financial services industry.
- Experience utilizing Foglight or implementing process improvements using AI.
- Demonstrated success in mentoring others, reviewing technical approaches, and contributing to team learning standards.
