Role Overview
A position is available for a Powder Coating Technician to perform powder coating operations on manufactured components. The role involves applying powder coatings to parts produced through various methods, ensuring high-quality surface finishes that meet specifications. This position requires attention to detail, knowledge of coating processes, and the ability to operate coating equipment safely and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply powder coatings to manufactured components using electrostatic spray guns.
- Perform surface preparation including cleaning, degreasing, and media blasting.
- Mask parts to protect critical features and threads from coating.
- Load and unload parts from coating racks and fixtures.
- Operate curing ovens and monitor temperature profiles.
- Inspect coated parts for quality defects and measure coating thickness.
- Operate and maintain powder coating equipment including spray booths, electrostatic guns, and curing ovens.
- Verify coating quality meets customer specifications and color standards.
- Handle parts carefully and maintain an organized work area.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Required Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: 1+ years of powder coating experience or equivalent technical training.
Skills: Knowledge of powder coating processes and equipment. Ability to identify coating defects and quality issues. Proficiency with coating thickness measurement tools. Strong attention to detail and good manual dexterity. Basic computer skills for documentation. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of powder coating experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Technical certification or vocational training in coating technology.
- Experience with electrostatic spray application and surface preparation techniques.
- Familiarity with color matching and multiple coating types (polyester, epoxy, hybrid).
- Experience in contract manufacturing or high-mix production environments.
- Forklift certification.
Compensation & Benefits
The pay rate for this position is between $26.00 and $36.00 per hour. Specific compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other factors. A benefits package may be available to eligible employees.
