Director of Underwriting

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in Jacksonville, FL that is seeking a Director of Underwriting.

Summary:
The Director of Underwriting is a senior leader who plays a critical role in shaping underwriting strategy, strengthening portfolio performance, and promoting disciplined, well-reasoned risk decisions within a homeowners insurance portfolio. This position balances strategic insight with day-to-day engagement, ensuring underwriting decisions support sustainable growth while adapting to a dynamic and competitive property and casualty environment.

This leader is accountable for guiding and evolving underwriting operations, with a focus on process clarity, effective controls, and operational consistency. The Director of Underwriting partners closely across the organization to deliver reliable outcomes and a seamless experience for distribution partners and policyholders. A key priority is building and developing a high-caliber underwriting team by encouraging technical proficiency, sound decision-making, and a mindset centered on accuracy, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in a business-related field such as Finance, Risk Management, or a comparable area of study; Graduate-level education is a plus
* Industry credentials (e.g., CPCU, ARM, AU, ARe, or similar designations) are highly desirable
* Extensive underwriting background of at least a decade, ideally within residential property or homeowners insurance, including a minimum of five years leading teams or managing underwriting functions
* Hands-on experience designing, refining, and governing underwriting frameworks, guidelines, and operational controls
* Demonstrated track record of building, motivating, and directing strong underwriting teams in high-volume, analytics-driven environments
* Proficiency in applying modern underwriting tools, data analytics, and external data sources to enhance risk evaluation and consistency
* Working knowledge of state-level insurance regulations, with specific insight into Florida market dynamics and compliance requirements

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
