Pay Range: $74-79/hr W2
Role Overview
The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying scalable backend services that support data-driven and financial systems. This role focuses on building domain APIs, integrating backend systems with multiple endpoints, and ensuring solutions are high-quality, reliable, and automated. The engineer will work as part of an Agile Scrum team, collaborating closely with peers and the hiring manager while operating with a high degree of independence and technical ownership.
Day in the Life
A typical day includes collaborating with teammates during Agile ceremonies, writing and reviewing code, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, and contributing to design discussions. The engineer balances focused development work with meetings, code reviews, and continuous improvement of existing systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Develop and expose APIs to support enterprise applications and financial systems.
- Build and deploy cloud-native solutions using Azure and Kubernetes.
- Implement event-driven and messaging solutions using cloud service bus technologies.
- Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
- Debug, enhance, and modernize existing applications to improve performance and stability.
- Write and execute unit tests to proactively identify defects.
- Review code for quality, maintainability, and adherence to standards.
- Support production systems through defined on-call rotations.
- Contribute to DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation initiatives.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to peers as needed.
Essential Job Functions
- Utilize the full software development lifecycle to deliver high-quality technology solutions.
- Translate functional and non-functional requirements into technical designs and code.
- Produce design specifications and convert them into working application components.
- Analyze root causes of defects and remediate issues in development and production.
- Define, promote, and enforce coding standards and engineering best practices.
- Estimate and size work based on high-level requirements.
- Support and maintain multiple applications and services.
- Operate autonomously while demonstrating strong business and domain knowledge.
Required Skills & Experience
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (Functions, SQL, Service Bus preferred).
- Experience with Kubernetes and containerized applications.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
- Experience working in DevOps-enabled environments.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Customer service or customer-facing engineering experience.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Experience with additional programming languages.
- Knowledge of test frameworks such as Vitest.
- Exposure to additional cloud platforms (like AWS) and certifications.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
- Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
First-Month Focus
- Ramp up on team processes, standards, and codebases.
- Learn system architecture and development practices.
- Begin with small to mid-sized tasks and progress toward higher-impact deliverables.
- Contribute meaningful business value within the first few months.
