Duration: 12-Month Contract (Potential Extension)
Schedule: Hybrid, 3 days onsite / 2 days remote

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Agile Data Product Owner to join the Chief Administrative Office (CAO) Data Analytics & Insights team. In this role, you will own and prioritize a data product backlog, translate business objectives into actionable product requirements, and partner with cross-functional teams to deliver trusted, scalable, and governed data solutions.

You will work at the intersection of business, data, governance, and technology to drive enterprise data modernization initiatives that improve reporting, analytics, operational decision-making, and data quality outcomes.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, collaborating across diverse stakeholder groups, and creating measurable business value through data products.
What You'll Do
Product Ownership & Strategy
  • Own and manage the product backlog for a defined data product area.
  • Translate strategic business priorities into features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Partner with Product Managers to align backlog priorities with product roadmaps and business objectives.
  • Define success metrics and measure product value, adoption, and business outcomes.
Agile Delivery
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, standups, reviews, retrospectives, and PI Planning activities.
  • Prioritize work based on business value, risk, dependencies, and delivery readiness.
  • Review completed work and approve delivered capabilities against defined acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborate with engineering and delivery teams to ensure work is clearly defined, testable, and aligned with expected outcomes.
Data Product Management
  • Drive delivery of data capabilities including:
    • Data sourcing and integration
    • Data quality improvements
    • Metadata and lineage management
    • Reporting and analytics solutions
    • Semantic modeling and business-ready data assets
    • Cloud-based data platform initiatives
  • Support enterprise data modernization efforts and scalable data product development practices.
Stakeholder & Governance Partnership
  • Build strong relationships with business stakeholders, technology teams, data governance groups, risk partners, and compliance organizations.
  • Facilitate alignment across teams with competing priorities and shared dependencies.
  • Ensure solutions comply with governance standards, regulatory requirements, and enterprise policies.
  • Communicate product priorities, risks, dependencies, and delivery progress to stakeholders at multiple levels.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Agile Product Ownership, Product Management, Scrum, Business Analysis, Data Product Management, or related roles.
  • Experience defining and managing product backlogs in Agile environments.
  • Experience translating business requirements into user stories, features, and acceptance criteria.
  • Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience using Agile delivery tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience serving as a Product Owner, Agile Product Owner, Data Product Owner, Product Lead, or Business Analyst supporting Agile delivery teams.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Data governance
    • Data quality management
    • Metadata and lineage
    • Enterprise data platforms
    • Reporting and analytics solutions
    • Data integration and data warehousing
  • Experience working in cloud-based data environments.
  • Experience managing dependencies across multiple teams and programs.
  • Experience operating within highly regulated industries such as banking, insurance, healthcare, or financial services.
  • Agile certifications such as:
    • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)
    • Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO)
    • SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM)
    • SAFe Agilist
    • PMI-ACP
Education

Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Management, Engineering, Analytics, or a related field preferred.

Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience will also be considered.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid role based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Team members are expected to work onsite three days per week and may work remotely up to two days per week, subject to business needs.

Periodic participation in Program Increment (PI) Planning sessions, stakeholder meetings, and strategic planning activities may require schedule flexibility.
