Job Title: Data Center II Technician
Location: Bay Area (Sunnyvale, Palo Alto, San Jose, Milpitas, Santa Clara, Hayward, San Mateo & Fremont) OR Texas (Plano, Frisco, Garland, McKinney, Richardson & Irving)
Data Center II Technicians are expected to have previous experience in an enterprise Data Center or Lab environment for over 2 years, (or show similar commensurate experience).
Data Center II Technicians work alongside other IT support staff and Infrastructure SME’s to support the install, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipment located in a Data Center/Lab environment - frequently this work will require completion without additional resources or supervision.
Experience working with personal computers and general application experience is assumed – MS Office, Google Suite, Smartsheets. Experience with Data Center Infrastructure Management, (or DCIM) tools is preferred.
Tasks / Responsibilities:
· Installation, decommission, & maintenance of Data Center Network and Compute/Server equipment (ex. Storage, PDUs, SAN, and NAS).
o Execute installations in accordance with server elevation diagrams and patching matrices.
· Build and deploy Server cabinets within DCIT standard
· Troubleshooting of devices in the Data Center that require physical connectivity.
· Inventorying of Data Center devices - IT Asset Management, (ITAM).
o Capture device information such as asset tag, serial numbers, and MAC addresses.
· Maintain proper cable management techniques and power redundancy standards as required by the customer.
· Perform basic server troubleshooting - such as power and link light verification.
· Interface with customers, clients, and technical staff as required.
· Physically assist in moving and racking equipment as directed.
· Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
· Maintain client standards documentation as required.
· Act as a mentor to entry level Data Center I Technicians as required.
Qualifications / Skillset:
· At least 2 years of previous experience in an enterprise Data Center/Lab environment.
· Ability to use hand tools.
· Can regularly lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
· OSHA/ESD awareness. Knowledge of safety practices in Data Center and Engineering Labs for lifting, use of ladders etc.
· Ability to perform the racking and patching of hardware and/or relocate existing devices to a new rack location.
· Understanding the use case of different cabling – Coaxial, Ethernet, and Fiber.
· Experience with Data Center hardware, (Compute, Network, SAN, and NAS), as well as internal componentry - Processors, Memory/RAM, Storage drives and Network cards.
· Thorough understanding of air flow, heat management, and power redundancy practices.
· Ability to read and comprehend rack elevations, patching matrices, network topologies without assistance.
· Ensures that assigned tasks are completed in a timely manner through independent planning, prioritization and time management.
· Perform miscellaneous physical tasks as required by clients.
· Perform miscellaneous reporting and monitoring tasks as assigned by DC Lead/client.
