Senior Java / Spring Boot Engineer - Digital Checkout (Contract)

This role supports the Avvance (Buy Now, Pay Later) platform, a multi-channel B2B2C lending solution that enables merchants to offer point-of-sale financing directly within their checkout experience. The engineer will focus on the Avvance consumer checkout experience, contributing to feature delivery, platform stability, and production support within a modern, API-driven digital ecosystem.
Responsibilities

• Design and develop new features for the Avvance consumer checkout experience using Java and Spring Boot
• Collaborate with Lead Engineers and Product Owners to plan features and stories in JIRA
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
• Ensure high code quality through peer code reviews, unit testing, and adherence to engineering standards
• Update and maintain production runbooks based on system enhancements
• Triage and troubleshoot issues encountered by partners during UAT and in Production
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to support a scalable, reliable digital checkout platform

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of overall software engineering experience
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Java
• 5+ years of experience building services with Spring Boot
• 3+ years of experience with Jenkins, Maven, and Kubernetes
• 3+ years of experience working with Postgres and/or MongoDB
• Strong understanding of REST-based APIs and backend service development
• Solid communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional Agile teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting consumer-facing digital checkout or payment applications
• Background working in large-scale enterprise or financial services environments
