Facebook uses its own social network to recruit simply by telling its own stories in unique and authentic ways, explains Matt Millunchick, Technical Project Manager for Facebook. One of the most notable ways Facebook recruits is by taking its famous hackathons on the road. A Facebook hackathon is a 10-hour exercise where employees create something new and show it off. The only requirement is that you’re not allowed to actually do your job during that time. You must work on a brand new idea. Hackathons have famously brought about some of Facebook’s most popular features such as video, photos, and the “Like” button. During college events, Facebook recruiters host a hackathon on-campus. The intensity gives students an idea of what it’s like to work at Facebook.
